Freshman midfielder
Billy
Gutierrez (Huntington
Park HS) scored two goals to help lead the
Cerritos College men's soccer team to a 3-0
non-conference win at Cypress College on Tuesday
afternoon. With the win, the Falcons are now 4-2-0 on
the year, winning four straight, and will host Rio Hondo
College on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. Last year, the
Roadrunners knocked Cerritos out of the playoffs in the
first round.
With the Falcons leading 1-0,
freshman midfielder
Bryan Mejia
(Montebello HS)
was taken down in the box after he made a move from the
outside the box after bringing the ball all the way
downfield. Up stepped Gutierrez, who drilled the ball
into the net to give the Falcons a 2-0 advantage in the
38th minute of the game.
Gutierrez helped finish off a great
play in the 65th minute that put the game out of reach.
After freshman defender
Ivan Perez
(Chaparral, NV HS)
sent a beautiful clearing pass to sophomore forward
Joshua Meyer
(Cerritos HS),
he quickly sent a sparkling one-touch pass into an open
space that was accepted by sophomore midfielder
Victor Roman
(Loara HS).
Without missing a beat, he sent a one-touch pass to
Gutierrez, who also used one touch to put the ball into
the back of the net for his second goal of the game.
Cerritos opened the scoring in the
23rd minute when Perez sent a crossing pass into the box
that the 6-for-3 inch Meyer was able to get up and over
and headed the ball in for a goal. Freshman goalkeeper
Ivan Mercado
(Paramount HS)
picked up his third save of the season and was asked to
make only one save. |
