Now
beginning his fourth season as an assistant
coach, Raul Avellaneda was instrumental in
helping the Falcons to their first state
championship in school history two seasons
ago. A student of the game, Avellaneda is a
former Falcon player (1986-87) who played
internationally in Uruguay, Costa Rica and
Mexico for four years. Prior to playing at
Cerritos, Avellaneda graduated from Downey
High, where he was voted the team’s
Offensive Player of the Year as a senior
after scoring nine goals with 14 assists. In
his two seasons with the Falcons, Avellaneda
scored nine goals.
His
coaching career also consists of serving on
the coaching staff at Mater Dei High over
the last three years, while they captured
the CIF Division I Championship in 2006. He
also currently coaches at the club level
with the F.C. Irvine GU17 Silver soccer team
that he helped move up from the Bronze
level. |
