Joining the Falcon coaching
staff for the first year is Sergio Medrano,
who currently is the boy’s varsity soccer
head coach and athletic director at Animo
Leadership Charter High School in Inglewood.
Medrano has been at Animo Leadership since
2001, one year after the school opened in
2000, founding the school’s athletic
department that same year. Since the boy’s
soccer team became a varsity sport in
2002-2003, he has compiled a 153-20-12
record in seven seasons reaching the CIF
Semifinals four times, CIF State Semifinals
two times, and winning a CIF Championship in
2007. During the championship campaign in
2007, he was named the NSCAA West Region
Coach of the Year and the CIF Coach of the
Year. The Animo soccer program has sent many
players to various D1, D2, NAIA, and JC
programs.
As a player, Medrano played three varsity
seasons at Hawthorne High School earning
All-Ocean League and All-CIF Honors and in
his senior year earned the Ocean League MVP
in 1991. He went on to play for the USC Club
Soccer team from 1991-1995 and captained the
last two years.
Medrano graduated from USC in 1996 with a
B.S. in Exercise Science. He currently holds
three teaching credentials in Science,
Physical Education, and Multiple Subject. He
also currently holds a “D” coaching license. |
