With just two more
regular season games remaining before the start of
the Southern California Regional Playoffs, the
Cerritos College men's soccer team turned in a
strong defensive game, as they shut out host Los
Angeles Harbor College, 2-0 in a South
Coast Conference match on Friday night. The win
improves the Falcons record to 15-2-2 overall, while
they secured a tighter hold on second place in the
conference with a 9-2-1 record. The team will play
their final two games at home, as they host El
Camino College on Tuesday at East Los Angeles
College on Friday, with both games starting at 1:00
p.m.
In the win over
the Seahawks, Cerritos got on the board in the 15th
minute when sophomore
Andrew
Robles (St. John Bosco HS)
sent a crossing pass on the right side to freshman
Cesar Castillo (Eagle Valley, CO HS),
who drilled a hard shot that hit just under the
upright and went into the net for a goal.
The Falcons picked
up an insurance goal in the 60th minute
when freshman
German Rivas (Monrovia
HS) took on two Seahawk players before sending
a pass to Robles, who quickly one-timed the ball to
the left-hand bottom side of the net.
"I thought we did
a very good job with contending the ball in the air,
which really helped us control the ball and the
tempo," said head coach
Benny
Artiaga. "Our defenders also were very
slick and did a very good job countering what Harbor
tried to do. The game had a play-off feel to it,
which is what we need because we are very close to
getting to that point in the season. It was just a
very good all-around game for us."
