Cerritos College
sophomore men's soccer forward
Luis
Gonzalez (Long Beach Millikan HS),
who leads the state in goals, assists and points,
was named the California Community College Athletic
Association October Male Athlete of the Month. This
is the first time a member of a Falcon men's team
has won the award, while eight Cerritos women's
athletes have won the award over the years.
Gonzalez, who
scored 15 goals and added nine assists over the nine
games played in the month, currently leads the state
in goals (25), assists (17) and points (67), as the
Falcons are 16-2-2 on the year. Gonzalez helped the
team to a 7-1-1 record in October and his output
included a four-goal game against Pasadena City
College, as well as
three other multiple-goal games and a
pair of multiple-assist games. Cerritos is currently
#3 in Southern California in the power ratings and
are the defending state champions.
Last year Gonzalez was named the Most Valuable Player of the
State Championships, as the Falcons won their second
title in the last three years. He led the team in
goals (24), assists (17) and points (65) last year
and was an NSCAA Division III 2nd Team All-American
selection.
Cerritos closes out the regular season on Friday at 1:00 p.m. when
they host East Los Angeles College. They will open
the Southern California Regional Playoffs on
Saturday, November 21.
