04.21.12 - Cerritos finishes in fourth at
championships
The
Cerritos College men's swimming team concluded the South
Coast Conference Championships at Pasadena City College
on Saturday in fourth place with 483 team points, while
Chaffey College and Long Beach City College tied for the
championship with 651 team points. The day finished with

place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, while freshman

(Warren HS) coming in fourth place in the

(Downey HS) knew that winning the 400-yard IM was
one of the biggest long shots of the South Coast
Conference Championships on Friday at Pasadena City
College. Going up against a field that consisted of
Cairo Liu of PCC was a formidable task, but Klotzer was
able to defeat the rest of the field, as he took second
place with a time of 4:30.29, which was 23 seconds
behind Liu, who came in first place. The Falcons
maintained their fourth place position in the team
standings with one day remaining at the PCC Aquatic

04.19.12 - After first day, team sitting in fourth
place
After
the first day of the South Coast Conference
Championships, the Cerritos College men's swimming team
has compiled 160 team points, which puts them in fourth
place. The Falcons, who picked up a fourth place finish
in an individual race and relay, will return to Pasadena
City College on Friday for the second day, with the
preliminaries starting at 10:00 a.m. and the finals

04.07.12 - Falcons post good times at Pasadena Invite
Led by
a couple of strong individual performances from freshman
Albert Vidal
(Montebello HS), the Cerritos College men's
swimming team finished in 11th place out of 15 teams at
the Pasadena Invitational over the weekend. The Falcons,
who will send their divers to the South Coast Conference
Championships at El Camino College this weekend, will
follow that up by competing in the SCC Championships the

03.30.12 - Cerritos posts second straight sweep
After a
slow start to the South Coast Conference season, the
Cerritos College men's swimming team finished in strong
fashion by capturing the final four dual meets. On
Friday, the Falcons recorded wins over Rio Hondo College
(190-10) and host El Camino College (165-92) to improve
their SCC record to 4-3. The team will now compete in
the Pasadena Invitational this weekend before preparing
for the conference championships, which will also be

03.23.12 - Albert Vidal wins three events in Falcon

Albert Vidal
(Montebello HS) won three events, while the team
picked up two more wins, as they defeated host Pasadena
City College, 152-126 in a South Coast Conference meet
on Friday. With the win, the Falcons improved to 2-3 on
the year and will compete in their final conference dual
meet on Friday when they travel to El Camino to face the
host Warriors and Rio Hondo College...[more]
03.16.12 - Falcons pick up first conference win
The
Cerritos College men's swimming team picked up their
first South Coast Conference win of the season on
Friday, when they defeated Los Angeles Trade-Tech
College, 233-37, while at the same time, they dropped a
178-103 decision to Chaffey College in a three-team
meet. The Falcons (1-3) will now travel to Pasadena City
College on Friday for a 12:30 p.m. conference meet.
On the day, the team had one swimmer win an event, while
the Falcons finished in second place in 10 other events.
Sophomore Dustin Yi (Warren HS) captured the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:15.24, while swimming the first leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that came in second place. Yi was joined by freshman
David Chang (Artesia HS), sophomore
Mario Ibarra (El Rancho HS) and freshman Daric Johnson (Whittier HS) with a time of 3:34.70. ..[more]
03.02.12 - Cerritos drops pair of conference matches
Hosting the first
South Coast Conference match of the season, the Cerritos
College men's swimming team dropped a pair of matches,
188-93 against Long Beach City College and by a 190-88
score against Mt. San Antonio College. The Falcons will
host both Los Angeles Trade-Tech and Chaffey College at
12:30 p.m. next Friday at the Falcon Aquatic Center.
Turning in the best performances of the day for Cerritos
was freshman freestyle distance swimmer
Albert
Vidal (Montebello HS), who
placed second in the 500-yard freestyle and
1000-yard freestyle, while he took third in the
200-yard IM. Vidal's time of 5:09.52 was bested by
only Ryan McDonald of Long Beach City College, who
trailed midway through the race before pulling ahead
and posting the win. It was McDonald that defeated
Vidal in the 1000-yard freestyle, as he recorded a
time of 10:37.99, which was five seconds off the

02.24.12 - Team finishes sixth at Golden West
Still
in the early stages of the season, the Cerritos College
men's swimming team finished in sixth place out of seven
teams at the Golden West Invitational on Friday. The
Falcons had five entries finish in the top 10 over the
course of the day, with three of them coming in eighth
place. Next Friday, the team will host their South Coast
Conference opener, with Mt. San Antonio College and Long
Beach City College visiting the Falcon Aquatic

For the Cerritos
College men's swimming team, they got their first chance
competing against the rest of their competition in the
South Coast Conference on Friday at the SCC
Pentathlon at Pasadena City College. The Falcons had six
top 12 finishes on the day, which prepares them for the
deeper competition at the Golden West Invitational next

02.04.12 - Cerritos opened season at Palomar
The
Cerritos College men's swimming team opened the 2012
season at the Waterman Festival and Pentathlon at
Palomar College over the weekend. The Falcons, who
return only three swimmers from last season, got a
chance to get their freshmen their first collegiate
experience. The team will take a week of before
competing in the SCC Pentathlon at Pasadena City College
next Friday, while the divers will take part in the SCC
Diving Preview the next day at El Camino College...[more]
05.25.11 - PJ Gabayeron ends with three more
All-American nods
In a
career that is unmatched by any other Cerritos College
men's swimmer, sophomore PJ Gabayeron
(Cerritos HS) was named All-American in three
more events. That brings his two-year total to
six individual and three relay All-American selections,
while he was a five-time state champion. All three of
the events Gabayeron was named All-American mark the
second year in a row he has received the honor...[more]
05.11.11 - Falcon swimmer receives 2nd Athlete of the
Month Award
For
the second time in as many years, Cerritos College men's
swimmer PJ Gabayeron
(Cerritos HS) has been named the California
Community College Male Athlete of the Month. He is the
first person to receive the award twice. Gabayeron, who
concluded his Falcon swimming career with five CCCAA
individual state championships, posted a new state meet
record in the 200-yard breaststroke in his final race.
He broke a 23-year-old record by posting a time of
2:00.24, which eclipsed the old time of 2:00.57 set by
Justin Nicolas of College of Marin in 1988.
During the month of April, Gabayeron won two state
championships, finished fourth in another, won three
South Coast Conference championships and a relay
championship while setting new school records in each
event. He finishes his career with four individual
school records and two relay records. In addition to his
state title in the 200-yard breaststroke, Gabayeron won
the 100-yard breaststroke with a school-record time of
55.68, while his time of 1:51.63 in the 400-yard IM was
a new school standard and earned him a fourth place
finish.
In addition to his five swimming state
championships, Gabayeron was named All-American six
times as an individual swimmer and three other times as
part of a relay team, while he earned the Performance of
the Meet as a sophomore and Swimmer of the Meet at the
state championships his freshman year and won eight
South Coast Conference championships...[more]
04.30.11 - Gabayeron breaks state record in finals
In his final race as a
member of the Cerritos College men's swimming team,
sophomore PJ Gabayeron
(Cerritos HS) not only rewrote the school record
book, he set a new state record. In the championship
finals of the 200-yard breaststroke at the California Community College
Athletic Association Men's Swimming Championships at
East Los Angeles College, Gabayeron established a
new state championship record with his time of 2:00.24.
He broke the old state championship record time of
2:00.57, set by Justin Nicholas of College of Marin in
1988. Gabayeron, who won the
100-yard breaststroke on Friday, finishes his Falcon
career with five individual state championships, the
most ever in school history. Prior to Gabayeron
winning his five state titles,
Nikos Kostianis won four individual state
