02.04.12 - Cerritos opened season at Palomar
The
Cerritos College men's swimming team opened the 2012
season at the Waterman Festival and Pentathlon at
Palomar College over the weekend. The Falcons, who
return only three swimmers from last season, got a
chance to get their freshmen their first collegiate
experience. The team will take a week of before
competing in the SCC Pentathlon at Pasadena City College
next Friday, while the divers will take part in the SCC

All-American nods
In a
career that is unmatched by any other Cerritos College
men's swimmer, sophomore PJ Gabayeron
(Cerritos HS) was named All-American in three
more events. That brings his two-year total to
six individual and three relay All-American selections,
while he was a five-time state champion. All three of
the events Gabayeron was named All-American mark the
second year in a row he has received the honor...[more]
05.11.11 - Falcon swimmer receives 2nd Athlete of the
Month Award
For
the second time in as many years, Cerritos College men's
swimmer PJ Gabayeron
(Cerritos HS) has been named the California
Community College Male Athlete of the Month. He is the
first person to receive the award twice. Gabayeron, who
concluded his Falcon swimming career with five CCCAA
individual state championships, posted a new state meet
record in the 200-yard breaststroke in his final race.
He broke a 23-year-old record by posting a time of
2:00.24, which eclipsed the old time of 2:00.57 set by
Justin Nicolas of College of Marin in 1988.
During the month of April, Gabayeron won two state
championships, finished fourth in another, won three
South Coast Conference championships and a relay
championship while setting new school records in each
event. He finishes his career with four individual
school records and two relay records. In addition to his
state title in the 200-yard breaststroke, Gabayeron won
the 100-yard breaststroke with a school-record time of
55.68, while his time of 1:51.63 in the 400-yard IM was
a new school standard and earned him a fourth place
finish.
In addition to his five swimming state
championships, Gabayeron was named All-American six
times as an individual swimmer and three other times as
part of a relay team, while he earned the Performance of
the Meet as a sophomore and Swimmer of the Meet at the
state championships his freshman year and won eight
South Coast Conference championships...[more]
04.30.11 - Gabayeron breaks state record in finals
In his final race as a
member of the Cerritos College men's swimming team,
sophomore PJ Gabayeron
(Cerritos HS) not only rewrote the school record
book, he set a new state record. In the championship
finals of the 200-yard breaststroke at the California Community College
Athletic Association Men's Swimming Championships at
East Los Angeles College, Gabayeron established a
new state championship record with his time of 2:00.24.
He broke the old state championship record time of
2:00.57, set by Justin Nicholas of College of Marin in
1988. Gabayeron, who won the
100-yard breaststroke on Friday, finishes his Falcon
career with five individual state championships, the
most ever in school history. Prior to Gabayeron
winning his five state titles,
Nikos Kostianis won four individual state
