The Cerritos College men’s
swimming team split their two South Coast Conference
matches in a three-way meet at the Falcon Pool on
Friday. They posted an 85-10 win over Rio Hondo College,
while they fell to Mt. San Antonio College, 89-33. With
the split, the Falcons are now 4-2 on the season and
close out their conference meets this Friday when they
travel to Chaffey College for a 3:00 p.m. meet.
In the win over Rio Hondo,
each event saw a Falcon swimmer finish ahead of the
Roadrunners, while Cerritos won only one event against
the Mounties. Sophomore
Paul Tse
(Kennedy HS), who competed in four events, won
the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 57.73 to beat
everyone else, while he placed second in all three of
the other races. He joined sophomores
Cory Pettis
(Warren HS) and
Eric
Mireless (Downey HS), along with freshman
Tomas Watson
(Valley, NM HS) in the 200-medley relay and came
in second in a time of 1:46.72. Tse also placed second
in the 100-yard freestyle (49.99) and 200-yard
individual medley (2:08.7) races.
Other Falcons who swam well
included Watson who placed second overall in the 50-yard
freestyle (23.54) and 200-yard backstroke (2:22.24)
races, while Pettis also had two other second place
finishes. Pettis was clocked in 1:05.90 in the 100-yard
breaststroke, while his time in the 500-yard freestyle
also put him in second place. Freshman
Jonathan Cheng
(Millfield HS,
United Kingdom)
placed second in the 200-yard butterfly race in a time
of 2:38.66. |
