Paul Tse
(Kennedy HS) finished in the top 10 in four events in
individual races and also swam the leg of four relay
races to help lead the Cerritos College men’s swimming
team to a seventh place finish at the Pasadena
Invitational last Thursday and Friday. The Falcons
amassed 176 team points and had three other South Coast
Conference teams finish ahead of them in the standings.
Next up for the team will be the conference
championships, which will be held April 27-29.
In individual races, Tse
placed fifth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of
56.20 and came in seventh place in the 400-yard
individual medley with a time of 4:39.05. He is closing
in on the school record of 4:38.27, which was set by
Al Reyes in 1988. Additionally, Tse registered an
eighth place finish in the 200-yard individual medley
with a time of 2:05.98, while he also posted an eighth
place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.59
and was beat out by just two conference competitors.
In relay action, Tse swam the
first leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay race and was
joined by freshman
Tomas Watson
(Valley, NM HS), sophomore
Kevin Armijo
(Western HS) and freshman
Jose Aguirre
(Downey HS) as the team placed fourth in a time
of 1:30.52. As for the 200-yard medley relay team, which
came in seventh place in a time of 1:46.29, they were
comprised of Tse, sophomore
Cory Pettis
(Warren HS), Watson and Aguirre, while 400-yard
medley relay team placed 10th in a time of
3:57.33 and was comprised of the same quartet. Aguirre,
Pettis, Watson and Tse worked toward an eighth place
finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay race in a time of
3:32.76.
Others who swam well include
Pettis, whose time of 2:21.84 in the 200-yard
breaststroke earned him a seventh place finish and he
also came in 12th place in the 100-yard
breaststroke in 1:05.43 and in 19th place in
the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:54.63. Aguirre
also did well and came in 13th place in the
200-yard backstroke in 2:15.49.
In a conference match prior
to the invitational, the Falcons were defeated by
Chaffey College, 88-35, with Tse winning three
individual races and teaming up to win one relay race. |
