Competing with a depleted
staff due to illness, the Cerritos College men’s
swimming team split their two South Coast Conference
meets on Friday. The Falcons defeated Los Angeles
Trade-Tech College, 67-60, but dropped a 94-33 decision
to host Long Beach City College to see their conference
record move to 1-1. The team will now travel north to
compete in the Cuesta Invitational this weekend.
Sophomore
Paul Tse
(Kennedy HS) led the Falcons, as he won both the
100-yard backstroke in a time of 56.20, while his time
of 49.86 was good enough to capture the 100-yard
freestyle race. The only other swimming to win a race
against both schools was sophomore
Cory Pettis
(Warren HS), who captured the 100-yard
breaststroke in 1:06.88.
The Falcons had only seven
healthy swimmers and were still able to defeat a
much-improved LA Trade-Tech team, while the Vikings are
once again talented from top to bottom.
Winning races against LA
Trade-Tech were freshman
Jose Aguirre
(Downey HS) in the 200-yard backstroke (2:13.98)
and the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.62), while Pettis
posted a time of 5:24.33 in the 500-yard freestyle. The
400-yard freestyle relay team of Tse, Aguirre, Pettis
and sophomore
Eric
Mireless (Downey HS) sealed the win over
the Beavers with a victory. |
