The Cerritos College men’s
swimming team improved their South Coast Conference
record to 3-1 after they defeated both El Camino College
(78-49) and Pasadena City College (65-62) on Friday. The
Falcons will now host Mt. San Antonio College and Rio
Hondo College on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
Sophomores
Paul Tse
(Kennedy HS) and
Cory Pettis
(Warren HS) each won two events and came in
second place in another other event, while freshman
Tomas Watson
(Valley, NM HS) took second place in two other
events to lead the way. The 200-yard medley relay team
also won, while the 400-yard freestyle relay team placed
second.
Tse captured the 200-yard
backstroke in a time of 2:09.58 and the 200-yard
individual medley in a time of 2:06.24. His second place
finish came in the 100-yard backstroke (56.79), while
Pettis won both races in his specialty, the 100-yard
breaststroke (1:06.37) and the 200-yard breaststroke
(2:23.09). Both wins were by three seconds, while his
second place came in the 1000-yard freestyle in a time
of 11:08.92.
As for Watson, he came in
second place in both the 50-yard freestyle (23.57) and
100-yard freestyle (1:56.52), while teammate
Eric
Mireless (Downey HS) came in third place
in a time of 1:58.52. In the 500-yard freestyle,
freshman
Jose Aguirre (Downey HS) came in second
place in 5:33.09, with sophomore
Kevin Armijo
(Western HS) finishing in third place in 5:52.64.
Aguirre also placed second in the 200-yard backstroke in
a time of 2:11.15, with freshman
Jonathan Cheng
(Millfield HS, United Kingdom) came in third
place in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:37.69. |
