In an early-season competition
to display the South Coast Conference divers, both
the Cerritos College men's and women's divers came
out and performed very well. The Falcons sent three
men and three women divers to El Camino for the
conference diving competition on Tuesday with solid
results.
Leading the way for the men was freshman
Anthony Mayfield (Norwalk HS), who
won the 1-meter diving competition and beat out 10
other divers, as both the men and women competed
together. Mayfield recorded 207.10 points, which was
30 points higher than Chaffey College's Emely Moehle,
the conference women's diver of the year last
season. In the three-meter event, Mayfield placed
second behind Moehle with 172.80 points and finished
just 10 points behind her.
Also on the men's side, freshman Ramon White
(Lynwood HS) placed seventh in the 3-meter
event with 99.70 points, while he was an eight place
finisher at one meters with a score of 106.30.
Freshman Steven Pavon (Bell HS)
placed eighth (92.50 points) in the three-meter and
10th in the one-meter with 82.40 points.
For the women, sophomore Amanda Lemos
(John Glenn HS) came in third place among
the women competing in the 3-meter diving, as she
finished with 140.70 points, which was fourth
overall. She came in fifth place overall (four among
women) in the 1-meter diving with 125.05 points and
trailed freshman teammate Saira Arias,
who had 134.50 points in the 1-meter diving, good
for fourth place overall. Arias came in fifth place
overall in the 3-meter event with 135.55 points.
Said Falcon diving coach Glen Myer,
"It was nice to see that we were so well
represented. I don't think we have had three divers
for the men and women before and we accounted for
half of the divers out there."
