Cerritos College freshman
swimmer
Nikos
Kostianis (Downey HS) made himself
known across the state with his performance at the
Cuesta Invitational this past weekend. He helped
catapult the Falcons into ninth place at the
invitational by winning three events and swimming a
leg of several relay races. Kostianis won the
200-yard butterfly in 1:55.88, which was almost four
seconds ahead of the second place swimmer, while he
squeezed out a win in the 100-yard butterfly with a
time of 52.04. In the 100-yard backstroke, his time
of 53.42 was over a second faster that his next
competitor and has a chance to break all three
school records by the end of the season.
In addition to the success of Kostianis, the Falcons
also received a strong performance from freshman
Torrence Lee
(Cerritos HS), who came in ninth place in the
200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:21.28, while
his time of 2:09.38 was good for 15th place in the
200-yard individual medley. Freshman diver
Anthony
Mayfield (Norwalk HS) had a solid
tournament, placing fourth in the 3-meter diving
with 192 points, while his 167.65 points in the
1-meter diving was good for fifth place.
The 400-yard freestyle, 800-yard freestyle and
400-yard medley relays teams all placed eighth in
the invitational, while the 200-yard medley relay
team placed 10th.
