After checking all of the
times from the conference meets throughout the
state, it was discovered that a minor mistake
was made and the end result is that four of the
Cerritos College men's swimming relay teams have
advanced to the State Championships, which will
be held this weekend at Ohlone College.
At the South Coast Conference Championships this past
weekend, the Falcons won the conference team
title and thought they had only three swimmers
advancing to the finals. But when the mistake
was discovered, it not only assured that those
swimmers would get a chance to swim in their
individual events, they would also get to swim
in the relays, which will also allow for two
others swimmers to move on.
In the 400-yard medley relay, the quartet of freshman
Torrence
Lee (Cerritos HS), sophomore
Jose
Aguirre (Downey HS), freshman
Nikos Kostianis (Downey HS) and
freshman
Tristan Friend (Liberty Christian HS)
placed fourth in the conference meet at 3:41.75
and will now move on. The same can be said for
the 200-yard medley relay team of Lee, Aguirre,
Kostianis and Friend, whose time of 1:40.79 was
also good for fourth place. In the 400-yard
freestyle relay race, Friend, Aguirre, sophomore
Eddie
Kim (Cerritos HS) and Kostianis
placed fourth at 3:18.87, with the 800-yard
freestyle relay team of Friend, Lee, Kim and
Kostianis finishing in third place at 7:18.03.
As for the individual qualifiers, Kostianis (100-yard
butterfly, 200-yard butterfly, 100-yard
backstroke), Friend (200-yard freestyle,
200-yard butterfly, 200-yard individual medley)
and Kim (200-yard backstroke and 400-yard
individual medley) will represent the Falcons.
