The Cerritos College men's swimming
team pulled themselves into a second
place tie in the South Coast
Conference after defeating both Long
Beach City College (79-51) and Rio
Hondo College (116-14) on Friday.
The Falcons (3-1) will get a chance
to break that tie next Friday when
they travel to Mt. San Antonio
College (3-1) for a 3:00 p.m.
conference meet.
The duo of sophomore
Nikos
Kostianis (Downey
HS) and freshman
Louie Espinoza (Montebello
HS) each won three events,
while sophomore
Tristan Friend (Liberty
Christian HS) won two events to
lead the way. In addition, the
200-yard medley relay team of
Kostainis, Espinoza, Friend
and freshman
Mark Zuniga
(Downey HS) came in first
place.
For Espinoza, he captured first
place in the 100-yard backstroke
(58.24), 200-yard breaststroke
(2:20.19) and the 200-yard
individual medley with a time of
2:06.38. With
Kostianis, he won the
200-yard butterfly (2:05.53),
200-yard backstroke (2:09.11) and
the 100-yard butterfly (52.87), with
Friend winning the 200-yard
freestyle in a time of 1:50.92 and
the 500-yard freestyle in 5:00.64.
Others who swam well included
sophomore
Nick Young
(Kennedy HS), who came in
second place in the 200-yard
breaststroke in 2:24.72, while
divers
Luis Salgado
(California HS) and
Steven Baughman (Western
HS) took first and second
place, respectively.
