After the first day
of the California
Community College
Athletic Association
Men's Swimming
Championships at
Saddleback College,
the Cerritos College
men's swimming team
is still looking for
their first team
points. The state
championships run
through Saturday,
with all events held
at Saddleback.
The Falcons had two
entries on the first
day of competition,
with both finishing
in 19th place in
their respective
events. The top 16
advance to the
consolation round
and are guaranteed
team points, while
the top eight are in
the championship
round.
Competing for the
Falcons were
sophomore
Tristan Friend
(Liberty
Christian HS)
and freshman
Louie Espinoza
(Montebello HS).
Friend competed in
the 500-yard
freestyle, with his
time of 4:50.75
earning him 19th
place, which is
where he qualified
for the event. With
Espinoza, his time
of 2:01.99 in the
200-meter IM also
put him in 19th
place and he missed
out on swimming for
team points by .72
seconds.
Scheduled to compete
tomorrow is Espinoza
in the 200-yard
breaststroke, while
sophomore
Nikos Kostianis
(Downey HS)
will swim in the
100-yard backstroke
and the 100-yard
butterfly. On
Saturday, Kostianis
and Friend will swim
the 200-yard
butterfly, while
Espinoza will swim
the 200-yard
breaststroke.
