With 15 teams
entered in the Pasadena Invitational over the
weekend, the Cerritos College men's swimming
team compiled 215 points to finish in ninth
place. In five of the races, Falcon swimmers
finished in the top 10, with four of those
coming from freshman
Matt
Mendoza (La Serna HS).
Cerritos will now send their two divers to the
South Coast Conference Diving Championships,
which will take place at El Camino College this
weekend.
For Mendoza,
his best finish was in the 400-yard IM, where he
came in sixth place in a time of 4:28.47, while
sophomore teammate
Torrence
Lee (Cerritos HS) finished
in 14th place at 4:45.41. In the freestyle
distance races, Mendoza turned in a pair of
seventh place finishes. he posted a time of
4:59.19 in the 500-yard freestyle, while his
time of 17:31.09 in the 1650-yard freestyle also
landed him in seventh place. He was joined by
sophomore teammates
Ryan
Leung (Wan Yan College, China) and
Adam Arambula (Kennedy HS)
in the 1650, with Leung placing 14th (19:12.46)
and Arambula in 16th at 19:57.05. In the
200-yard backstroke, Mendoza placed eighth in a
time of 2:10.07.
The best
individual finish for the Falcons came from
freshman
Miguel Arcia
(Downey HS), who placed fifth in the
200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:14.06.
Freshman
Berner Figueroa (Paramount HS)
placed 12th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.62),
11th in the 200-yard butterfly (2:15.00) and
23rd in the 50-yard freestyle at 23.15.
Lee also swam
well in the 200-yard IM, as he placed 18th in
2:07.73 and finished in 19th place in the
100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.18.

8th in the 1-meter and
William Lansang (Gahr HS)
finishing in 9th place.
