The Cerritos
College men's swimming team had one swimmer come in
third place and three in fifth place in their
respective events at the Golden West Sprint Meet on
Saturday. As a result, the Falcons finished in fifth
place as a team with 758 team points. The team will
now open South Coast Conference action next Friday
when they travel to Pasadena City College to take on
the Lancers and Mt. San Antonio College.
Freshman
Berner
Figueroa (Paramount HS) turned
in a third place showing in the 200-yard individual
medley with a time of 2:09.79, while freshman
teammate
Matt
Mendoza (La Serna HS) was
right behind in fifth place with a time of 2:12.29.
Mendoza also swam well in the 500-yard freestyle, as
his time of 5:11.18 put him in fifth place, while
Figueroa finished in seventh place in both the
50-yard freestyle (23:26) and in the 100-yard
freestyle with a time of 52.27.
As for freshman
Dennis
Caggiano (Calvary Chapel HS),
he turned in a strong time of 1:05.85 in the
100-yard breaststroke, good for fifth place, with
sophomore
Ryan Leung
(Wan Yan College, China) placed eighth in
the 100-yard backstroke at 1:03.16. In the 200-yard
freestyle, freshman
Pat Muniz
(Santa Fe HS) came in ninth place at
2:00.22, while Leung finished in 10th place at
2:00.51.
In relay events,
the 400-yard freestyle team of Figueroa, Mendoza,
Leung and freshman
Alex Rico
(Bell Gardens HS) came in seventh place in
3:38.74, while the quartet of Mendoza, Caggiano,
Figueroa and freshman
Daniel Peng
(Cerritos HS) came in eighth place in the
200-yard medley relay race in a time of 1:49.54.
