Despite three wins
from freshman

Mendoza (La Serna HS), the
Cerritos College men's swimming team came out on the
wrong end of an 87-44 South Coast Conference score
against Chaffey College on Friday. The loss dropped
the team's conference record to 4-3, while they will
now enter the Pasadena Invitational this weekend.
For Mendoza, his
wins came in the 500-yard freestyle (5:24.79),
1000-yard freestyle (11:11.36) and in the 200-yard
backstroke, where he narrowly pulled out a win. His
time of 2:11.42 was .16 seconds faster than the
second place finisher. Freshman
Berner
Figueroa (Paramount HS) also
had a chance to win three events, but he was just
beat out in the 50-yard freestyle. Figueroa, who won
the 100-yard freestyle (50.30) and 200-yard IM
(2:08.05) posted a time of 23.22 in the 50-yard
freestyle. However, Chaffey's Adam Oaks touched the
finish line in 23.21.
The 400-yard
freestyle relay team posted a time of 3:32.08 to win
the event, while the 200-yard medley relay team
placed second with a time of 1:46.16. In the 1-meter
diving competition, freshman
Edgar
Villa (Gahr HS) placed second
with 161.10 points.
