05.25.11 - PJ Gabayeron ends with three more All-American nods
In a career that is unmatched by any other Cerritos College men's swimmer, sophomore PJ Gabayeron (Cerritos HS) was named All-American in three more events. That brings his two-year total to six individual and three relay All-American selections, while he was a five-time state champion. 05.11.11 - Falcon swimmer receives 2nd Athlete of the Month Award
PJ GabayeronFor the second time in as many years, Cerritos College men's swimmer PJ Gabayeron (Cerritos HS) has been named the California Community College Male Athlete of the Month. He is the first person to receive the award twice. Gabayeron, who concluded his Falcon swimming career with five CCCAA individual state championships, posted a new state meet record in the 200-yard breaststroke in his final race. He broke a 23-year-old record by posting a time of 2:00.24, which eclipsed the old time of 2:00.57 set by Justin Nicolas of College of Marin in 1988.

During the month of April, Gabayeron won two state championships, finished fourth in another, won three South Coast Conference championships and a relay championship while setting new school records in each event. He finishes his career with four individual school records and two relay records. In addition to his state title in the 200-yard breaststroke, Gabayeron won the 100-yard breaststroke with a school-record time of 55.68, while his time of 1:51.63 in the 400-yard IM was a new school standard and earned him a fourth place finish.

In addition to his five swimming state championships, Gabayeron was named All-American six times as an individual swimmer and three other times as part of a relay team, while he earned the Performance of the Meet as a sophomore and Swimmer of the Meet at the state championships his freshman year and won eight South Coast Conference championships...[more]

 

04.30.11 - Gabayeron breaks state record in finals
In his final race as a member of the Cerritos College men's swimming team, sophomore PJ Gabayeron (Cerritos HS) not only rewrote the school record book, he set a new state record. In the championship finals of the 200-yard breaststroke at the California Community College Athletic Association Men's Swimming Championships at East Los Angeles College, Gabayeron established a new state championship record with his time of 2:00.24. He broke the old state championship record time of 2:00.57, set by Justin Nicholas of College of Marin in 1988. Gabayeron, who won the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday, finishes his Falcon career with five individual state championships, the most ever in school history. After finishing in fourth place in the 200-yard IM yesterday in the California Community College Men's Swimming State Championships at East Los Angeles College, Cerritos College sophomore PJ Gabayeron (Cerritos HS) was able to defend his title in the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday. Cerritos College men's swimmer PJ Gabayeron (Cerritos HS) knew that all he needed to do to advance to the championship finals of the 200-yard IM at the California Community College Men's Swimming State Championships was to post one of the eight fastest times during the prelims on Friday at East Los Angeles College. As a freshman, Cerritos College men's swimming PJ Gabayeron (Cerritos HS) achieved the ultimate accomplishment, as he won three individual state championships and was named the Swimmer of the Meet. As a sophomore, Gabayeron is looking to match that feat, as he has qualified for the 2011 California Community College Men's Swimming State Championships in the same three events. The state championships will be held at East Los Angeles College starting on Thursday. 04.23.11 - Cerritos finishes second at conference championships
With sophomore PJ Gabayeron (Cerritos HS) picking up his third championship in as many days, the Cerritos College men's swimming team finished in second place at the South Coast Conference Championships, which took place at the Falcon Aquatic Center. The team concluded the meet with 656 team points and trailed only Mt. San Antonio College, who won the meet with 799 team points. With a pair of wins on the second day of the South Coast Conference Swimming Championships, the Cerritos College men's swimming team held on to second place with one day remaining. The Falcons, who have compiled 485 team points, trail only Mt. San Antonio College, who has 555 team points. On the strength of a win by sophomore PJ Gabayeron (Cerritos HS) in the 200-yard IM, the Cerritos College men's swimming team is in second place at the South Coast Conference Swimming Championships, which is taking place at the Falcon Aquatic Center. Freshman diver Scott Robles (Murrieta Valley HS) compiled 155 points in his six dives to capture the South Coast Conference championship in the 1-meter event, while he placed second in the 3-meter competition. However, he didn't have enough points to advance to the State Championships in either event. Sophomore swimmer PJ Gabayeron (Cerritos HS) has broken many records in his two seasons at Cerritos College. In addition to winning three individual state championships as a freshman, he has set four individual records and been a part of two relay team records. At the Pasadena Invitational over the weekend, Gabayeron broke a record he set in the 400-yard IM at the invitational last year. In winning the event, Gabayeron finished the race in a time of 4:14.16, which eclipsed his mark of 4:14.97 from last year. He was pushed the entire race by Mt. The Cerritos College men's swimming team had little trouble in defeating both El Camino College and Rio Hondo College in their South Coast Conference Tri-Meet on Friday. The Falcons (4-2) defeated both the host Warriors (184-88) and the Roadrunners (197-61) and won nine events on the day. Hosting their first meet of the season, the Cerritos College men's swimming team split their South Coast Conference meet on Friday, as the Falcons posted a 200-53 win over Los Angeles Trade-Tech College, while they suffered a 142-117 loss to Pasadena City College. Cerritos College sophomore swimmer PJ Gabayeron (Cerritos HS) has made a name for himself in his swimming career. In addition to his three state championships and Swimmer of the Meet award at the State Championships last season, he broke four individual records as a freshman and was a member of two relay school records. Gabayeron has continued to break records, but now they are his own marks. At the Cuesta Invitational on Saturday, he eclipsed his mark in the 400-yard IM by recording a time of 4:10.42 to win the event. It was also a new Cuesta Invitational record. 03.04.11 - Cerritos splits conference opener
Sophomore PJ Gabayeron (Cerritos HS) won three events for the Cerritos College men's swimming team in their South Coast Conference opener on Friday, as the team split against Long Beach City College and host Chaffey College. 02.25.11 - Falcons finish fourth at Golden West Invite
The Cerritos College men's swimming team compiled 843 team points on Friday at the Golden West Invitational, which put them in fourth place out of the seven teams that competed. But it was by the slimmest of margins that the Falcons didn't finish in third place, as the host Rustlers finished with 843.5 points to finish ahead of Cerritos. The team will now open South Coast Conference play on Friday when they travel to Long Beach City College to face the host Vikings and Chaffey College at 12:30 p.m. on Friday...[more]

02.19.11 - Competition consists of all Cerritos divers
The South Coast Conference Diving Invitational may have been held at El Camino College on Saturday, but every diver entered in the 3-meter event and all but one in the 1-meter event were from Cerritos College. The Falcons, who have eight divers on the roster this season, saw freshman Scott Robles (Murrieta Valley HS) win both the 1-meter diving and 3-meter competitions, while Jerome Romana (Gahr HS) was second in the 1-meter and Gerson Ortega (Norwalk HS) placed second in the 3-meter. The divers will now join the remainder of the team at the Golden West Invitational this Friday...[more]

02.18.11 - Falcons swim well at pentathlon
The Cerritos College men's swimming team hosted the South Coast Conference Pentathlon on Friday and there were several surprises at the meet. The Falcons, who picked up a pair of wins, two second places and a third place in a relay race, saw 200-yard IM defending state champion PJ Gabayeron (Cerritos HS) get beat by the slimmest of margins, while he was also edged out in another race. In both instances, it was a Pasadena City College swimmer that defeated Gabayeron. But he rebounded to win two events, besting both Lancer swimmers in each event. Cerritos College sophomore swimmer PJ Gabayeron (Cerritos HS) made quite an impact during his freshman season. Not only did he win three state championships, he broke four individual and two relay team records, while being named Swimmer of the Meet at the state championships. He opened his sophomore campaign by winning the Waterman Festival Pentathlon at Palomar College on Friday. After winning three titles at the State Championships, as well as earning Swimmer of the Meet, Cerritos College freshman swimmer PJ Gabayeron (Cerritos HS) has now earned All-American honors in three individual races, as well as in three relay races. Gabayeron was named All-American in all three of the races he won at the state championships - 200-yard IM, 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard breaststroke. He also swam a leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard medley relay and 800-yard freestyle relay, which earned All-American honors...[more]

05.12.10 - Year capped off with Gabayeron being named Athlete of the Month

While competing in three individual events, Gabayeron was the champion in all three, while setting school records in each and was named the Swimmer of the Meet at the State Championships. Gabayeron won one event each day, starting with the 200- yard IM (1:52.33), followed by the 100-yard breaststroke (56.69) and finished off with a win in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:01.96

Additionally, he took part in three relay events, and accounted for more than half of the team's 116 points. Gabayeron won all three of those events at the South Coast Conference Championships, as the Falcons captured the title, while he was a four-event champion at the Pasadena Invitational to start the month...[more]
