The
Cerritos College men’s
tennis team continued
their dominance over
their opponents early in
the season, as they ran
their record to 3-0
after an 8-1 home win
over Palomar College on
Tuesday afternoon. The
team was scheduled to
host Mt. San Jacinto
College on Wednesday,
but the match will be
postponed. That means
the Falcons will now
travel to San Diego Mesa
College on Thursday for
a 2:00 p.m.
non-conference match
against the Olympians.
Even
with several lineup
changes, the Falcons
played well and came up
with the big points when
needed. After #1-singles
player
Doug Edwards (Western
HS) posted a 6-0 win
in his first match
against Kyle Anderson,
he came back to register
a 7-5 win to earn the
team point. Even in the
#2 and #3 positions,
freshmen
Carlos Gomez (Kennedy
HS) and
David Sim (Cerritos
HS) fought off any
hopes of a Comet upset.
Gomez posted a 6-4, 6-3
win, while Sim came
through with a 6-2, 6-4
victory. Freshman
Jason Wall (Lakewood
HS) won handily in
his #5 position, with
freshman
Nik Bote (Mayfair
HS) posting a 6-4,
6-3 win. Only freshman
Mike Fitzgerald
(Lakewood HS),
who moved up to the #4
spot, was defeated, 0-6,
2-6.
The
match opened with
doubles competition and
the Falcons gave
themselves an early 3-0
team lead after sweeping
Palomar. On the year,
Cerritos has yet to lose
a doubles match. Edwards
and Wall got things
started with an 8-2 win
in the #1 position,
while Bote and freshman
Matt Jun (Cerritos
HS) pulled out an
8-6 win. Gomez and
Fitzgerald closed things
out with an 8-4 win in
the #3 doubles spot.
