It didn’t take very long for the Cerritos College men’s tennis team to leave San Diego with their undefeated record intact, as they swept through San Diego Mesa, 9-0 in a non-conference match on Thursday. With the win, the Falcons are now 4-0 on the season as they head to Irvine Valley College next Tuesday for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference match.

    The domination started in the doubles matches that get the contest started, as the Falcons lost only five combined games. At the top, freshmen Doug Edwards (Western HS) and Jason Wall (Lakewood HS) posted an 8-1 win, while both Nik Bote (Mayfair HS) and Matt June (Cerritos HS), along with Mike Fitzgerald (Lakewood HS) and Kschris Anda (California HS) each won by an 8-2 count.

    In singles play, Cerritos continued to use their serve and baseline shots to overpower the Olympians. Edwards defeated James Van Hess, 6-1, 6-0 in the top singles match, while in the #4 and #5 positions, freshman David Sim (Cerritos HS) won, 6-0, 6-1, while Fitzgerald shut out his opponent. Wall won, 6-4, 6-1 in the #2 spot, with Carlos Gomez (Kennedy HS) registering a 6-0, 6-3 win in the #3 singles match. Anda completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 win in the #6 singles match.
