The Cerritos College men’s tennis team improved their season record to 5-0 on Tuesday when they travelled to Irvine Valley College and posted a 9-0 win over the Lasers. The shutout win was the second in a row and third on the season, as the Falcons will now host Mt. San Jacinto College on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in a match that was rescheduled from earlier in the season.

    As they have through the first five matches, the Cerritos doubles teams remained undefeated on the year, posting big wins. At the top Doug Edwards (Western HS) and Jason Wall (Lakewood HS) recorded an 8-3 win, while Matt Jun (Cerritos HS) and Nik Bote (Mayfair HS) won, 8-2 in the #2 doubles position. The team closed out the sweep in doubles with Carlos Gomez (Kennedy HS) and David Sim (Cerritos HS) winning, 8-1.

    The Falcons had little trouble in singles play, with Sim sitting it out due to an illness. The lineup was adjusted and Kschris Anda (California HS) stepped into the #6 spot and posted a 6-1, 6-4 win. At the top, Edwards improved his record to 5-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win, while Gomez and Bote each played extremely well in the next two positions and both won, 6-2, 6-1. Mike Fitzgerald (Lakewood HS) won his match, 6-2, 6-0, while Jun closed it out with a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
