With two
of their starters back
in the lineup, the
Cerritos College men’s
tennis team made quick
work of Glendale College
on Thursday in their
non-conference road
match. The Falcons
(2-0), dominated in
doubles play, while they
were extended to two
sets that had to go to
seven games, but won
them both. The team will
now play their first
home match of the season
when they host Palomar
College at 2:00 p.m. on
Tuesday.
Playing their first
matches of the season,
Carlos Gomez
(6-1, 6-2) and David
Sim (6-1, 7-5), each
won in straight sets
while playing in the #4
and #5 singles position,
respectively. At the top
of the lineup, Doug
Edwards was leading,
6-2, 1-0, when his
opponent, Emanual Huag,
was forced to retire due
to an injury. Flipping
their positions from the
first match of the
season, Nik Bote
won, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 in
the #2 spot, while
Jason Wall
registered a 7-6 (2),
6-1 victory.
In
doubles action, Edwards
and Gomez teamed up for
an 8-1 win, as did Bote
and Matt Jun. In the #3
match, Mike
Fitzgerald, who won,
6-0, 6-0 in the #6
singles match, teamed
with Kschris Anda
for an 8-0, 8-0 win.
