The Cerritos College men's tennis team had a rough day all
around on the second day of the Southern California Regional Tournament,
which is being held at Riverside Community College. The Falcons, who
advanced all three of their doubles teams through the first day, saw all
finish the day with losses, while the team's lone singles player still
in the championship round was defeated. The third day of the tournament
runs through tomorrow.
In doubles action, freshmen
Doug Edwards (
Western
HS) and
Jason Wall
(
Lakewood HS) opened the day with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Brian
Howath and Joao Toledo of Grossmont College to move to the next round.
However, the team then had to withdraw due to an injury.
Carlos Gomez (
Kennedy
HS) and
David Sim
(
Cerritos HS) were defeated, 5-7, 3-6, while
Nik Bote (
Mayfair
HS) and
Matt Jun
(
Cerritos HS) dropped a 3-6, 6-4, 6-7 decision to #5-seeded
Francisco Alvarado and Dan Nguyen-Huu of Mt. San Jacinto College.
Edwards, who is seeded #7 in singles play, was upset by
Grossmont College's Waylon Bennett, 0-6, 7-6, 4-6, who is seeded #10. He
now drops into the consolation rounds.
