The Cerritos College men's tennis team saw both of
their doubles teams post two victories on the second
day of the 109th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament on
Friday, while their lone singles player was
eliminated. The Falcons and College of the Desert,
the top two teams in the South Coast Conference, are
the only schools with a pair of doubles teams still
in play. Doubles action will start at 12:30 p.m. for
all teams.
Top-seeded
Doug
Edwards (Western HS) and
Jason Wall (Lakewood HS), who
reached the semi-finals last year, defeated Modesto
College's Daniel Brito and Michael Martin, 6-2, 6-1
to reach the Round of 16. In that match, they
eliminated #16-seeded Felix Demiro and Laurent
Minguez of Orange Coast College, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in a
thrilling marathon match. The duo will now square
off against #9-seeded Michael Lim and Diego Miranda
of Riverside College. The team is the #2 doubles
team for the Tigers and it will be the first time
Edwards and Wall will face them.
The other Falcon
doubles team still in play are #7-seeded
Nik Bote
(Mayfair HS) and
Carlos
Gomez (Kennedy HS), who will
faced #2-seeded Marcelo Alecio and Cesar Uaya of
College of the Desert in the quarterfinals. On
Friday, the sophomore duo ousted Rod Hooper and Noah
Winters of American River College, 6-1, 6-1, while
they followed that with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over
Brad Fisher and Yannick Lepage of Orange Coast
College. The Pirate team was looking for their
second upset of the day, as they defeated the #10
seed in the Round of 16.
In singles action,

David Sim
(Cerritos HS) was eliminated by #1-seeded
Zach Taylor of Ventura College, 1-6, 2-6.
