Cerritos College
men's tennis doubles team
Doug
Edwards (Western HS) and
Jason Wall (Lakewood HS) had a
glorious freshman season last year, as they reached
the state championship match. Although they started
off slowly during their sophomore year, and were
even paired with different partners, they have come
on strong in the last month of the season. The two
were seeded #1 for the 109th Annual Ojai Valley
Tournament and have matched all expectations, as
they won two more matches on Saturday to reach the
finals.
Edwards and Wall,
who defeated #9-seed Michael Lim and Diego Miranda
of Riverside College, 7-5, 6-2 in the semi-finals
and #12 seeded Bruno Araugo and Alonso Leon of
College of the Desert, 6-3, 6-2 in the semi-finals
to reach the finals, will face an unseeded, but
familiar team at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Even though
they weren't paired as doubles partners either time
they faced the Falcons in South Coast Conference
action, Mt. San Jacinto College's Richard Tetteh and
Taylor Witt will face the Cerritos sophomores in the
championship match.
The team's other
doubles team, #7-seeded
Nik Bote
(Mayfair HS) and
Carlos
Gomez (Kennedy HS) were
eliminated in the quarterfinals by SCC foes Marcelo
Alecio and Cesar Uaya of College of the Desert, 6-2,
6-3. Tetteh and Witt then defeated them, 7-6 (4),
3-6, 6-3 to advance to the championship match
against Edwards and Wall.
