It lasted 34 consecutive matches, but the Cerritos College men's tennis team finally suffered a South Coast Conference loss. Over the last four seasons, the Falcons were undefeated in conference play until Tuesday afternoon when conference newcomer Mt. San Jacinto College came in and defeated the Falcons, 5-4. The loss drops the team's record to 4-2 on the year, while they are 1-1 in conference action. Cerritos will now travel to El Camino College next Tuesday for a 2:00 p.m. conference match.

The loss to the Eagles went down to the final match of the day, the #3 doubles match. In that, sophomores Matt Jun (Cerritos HS) and Carlos Gomez (Kennedy HS) opened with a 6-3 win over Kenny Hotchkiss and Richard Tetteh. However, the Mt. San Jac duo came back to win the next two sets, 6-4, 10-5 to secure the win for the Eagles.

After the teams split their six singles matches, Cerritos saw their newly formed #1 doubles team of sophomores Nik Bote (Mayfair HS) and Jason Wall (Lakewood HS) get defeated, 4-6, 5-7, while the other new team of sophomore Doug Edwards (Western HS) and freshman Tim Lee (Whitney HS) posted a 6-4, 6-3 win. That win almost didn't happen, as Lee was continuing to fight off the effects of the illness that forced him to retire from his #2 singles match to Taylor Witt.

Wall faced yet another three-set match for the fifth time in six matches this season. After dropping the first set, 7-6 (6), Wall came back for a 6-4 win in the #3 position against Bruno Reich. But, in the third set Wall was defeated, 11-9. Winning in singles play for the Falcons were Bote (6-3, 6-3), Gomez (6-3, 3-6, 11-9) and sophomore David Sim (Cerritos HS), who posted a 6-2, 6-0 win in the #6 position.
