With the top-rated
team in Southern California added to the South Coast
Conference this season, the Cerritos College men's
tennis team is gaining valuable experience when it
comes to post-season competition. However, the
experience comes at the expense of an 8-1 SCC loss
to College of the Desert on Thursday afternoon that
dropped the team's record to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in
conference action. The Falcons will now host Long
Beach City at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Facing a team full
of international players, the Falcons had their
hands full from the outset. Historically, the
Roadrunners have been very successful with players
from all over the world, and this year's team is
loaded with players from Brazil and Germany.
The lone Cerritos
win came in the #1 doubles position, as sophomores
Doug Edwards (Western HS) and
Jason Wall (Lakewood HS)
powered their way to an 8-4 win. Edwards did play
well in singles action, but suffered a 4-6, 1-6
decision in the #1 position, while freshman
Tim Lee
(Whitney HS) extended Marcelo Alecio to a
4-6, 3-6 decision in the #2 spot.
