Back on February 19, the Cerritos College men's
tennis team experienced something they hadn't in 34
consecutive South Coast Conference matches - a loss.
The Falcons, who suffered a 5-4 defeat at the hands
of Mt. San Jacinto College, avenged that loss on
Thursday when they handed the Eagles a 6-3 setback.
The win by Cerritos improves their season record to
9-3, while they are 6-2 in conference play. The
Falcons will now host El Camino College next Tuesday
at 2:00 p.m. in another SCC match.
In their first meeting, the match came down to the #3 doubles
match, where Mt. San Jacinto's Kenny Hotchkiss and
Richard Tetteh posted a 3-6, 6-4, 10-5 win over
sophomores

Thursday, the Falcons won four of the singles
matches to give themselves an advantage heading into
doubles. Although top doubles team
Doug
Edwards (Western HS) and
Jason Wall (Lakewood HS) were
defeated in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 4-10, the match
had been decided, as the Falcons won the other two
doubles matches.
Although Jun and Gomez did not team up again, they were both
winners in their match. Gomez teamed with sophomore
Nik
Bote (Mayfair HS) and
registered a 6-4, 6-2 win, while Jun joined with
freshman
Tim Lee
(Whitney HS) for a 6-4, 6-4 win.
In singles play, the bottom three on the ladder all posted
solid straight set wins, led by Bote, who posted a
6-1, 6-3 win over Carlos Marquez. As for Gomez, he
won, 6-0, 6-4 over Tetteh, while sophomore
David Sim (Cerritos
HS)registered a 6-3, 6-1 win over Tyler Park.
Edwards also won his singles match at the top of the
ladder, when he defeated Taylor Witt, 2-6, 6-1, 10-5
for a crucial win towards the team victory.
