Despite bringing only four players to Long Beach
City College for their South Coast Conference match,
the Cerritos College men's tennis team won all four
singles matches and both doubles matches that were
played for a 6-3 victory. The win keeps the Falcons
in a second-place tie with Mt. San Jacinto College
in conference play with just one match remaining.
Cerritos (11-4 overall, 8-3 SCC), who saw their
four-year undefeated conference record and four
straight championships come to an end this season,
close out the regular season at Mt. San Antonio
College on Thursday.
Missing four players for various reasons, the
Falcons still swept all of the singles matches,
while they only lost one game in the pro-set doubles
matches. Sophomore
Doug
Edwards (Western HS) and
freshman
Will Cho
(Whitney HS) each posted 6-0, 6-0 shutouts
in the #1 and #4 positions, respectively. As for
sophomore
David Sim
(Cerritos HS), he won his first match of
the year in the #2 spot, a 6-1, 6-0 decision, while
sophomore
Matt Jun
(Cerritos HS) followed suit by posting a
6-2, 6-0 win at the #3 spot, which was the first
time this year he played in that spot.
In doubles play, Edwards and Jun teamed up for the
first time and responded with an 8-0 win, while Sim
and Cho won their match, 8-1. It was the first time
all season Sim played doubles, and the second time
for Cho.
