The Cerritos College men's tennis team opened the 2012 season with a 9-0 non-conference win at Victor Valley on Tuesday. They will look for their second win in their home opener on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. against Ventura College, one of the state's elite teams.
Leading the way for the Falcons (1-0) was a quartet of freshmen seeing their first collegiate action. At the top of the ladder was freshman Chris Nguy (Cypress HS), who surrendered just two games in his straight set win. As a team, Cerritos lost just four games in singles play, with sophomore Kyle Porter (Lakewood HS), along with freshmen Todd Jenkins (Cabrillo HS) and Mark Herrera (Don Bosco Tech HS) all posting shutout wins.
The team played without a pair of sophomore, while freshman Kevin Wall (Lakewood HS), brother of former Ojai Tournament champion Jason Wall, teamed with Herrera to post an 8-3 win in the #3 doubles position. Porter and freshman Brandon Chang (Valencia HS) posted an 8-0 win at the top of the doubles ladder.
