Cerritos College sophomore
mens track athlete
Joshua Muwwakkil
(Warren HS) tied the second-best high jump in
school history when he cleared 6 10 at the South Coast
Conference All-Comers meet at Mt. San Antonio College on
Friday. With the height, Muwwakkil currently holds the
highest high jump in the state and he tied Paul
Struber, Bryan Hargrove and Michael Bragg
for the second highest height, while Dean Sears
still holds the school record of 6 11, set in 1979.
This week, the Falcons will
compete in their first scoring meet of the year when
they travel to Long Beach City for a five-way conference
meet. Joining Cerritos and the Vikings will be Pasadena
City, East Los Angeles and Los Angeles Southwest for the
1:00 p.m. meet.
In addition to his high jump,
Muwwakkil also recorded a 43 8Ύ triple jump. Placing
second in their respective heats of the 110-meter high
hurdles were sophomores Dean Laing (Bellflower
HS) in a time of 15.74 and
Ramon White (Lynwood
HS), who was clocked in 15.64. Sophomore
Chris Cerda (El
Rancho HS/Mt. San Antonio College) did well in his
three field events, as he recorded distances of 39 9
in the shot put, 109 5 in the discus and 130 2 in
the hammer throw. Sophomore William Martinez (Downey
HS) also competed in the shot put (40 8½) and in
the discus (112 2). |
