03.16.06 - CERRITOS WINS TWO OF THREE IN FOUR-WAY MEET

The Cerritos College men’s track and field team just missed out on finishing the South Coast Conference season undefeated, but were defeated by Mt. San Antonio College in their four-way meet on Thursday. The Falcons dispatched East Los Angeles College (197-136) and Compton College (197-15), but just didn’t have enough to supplant the Mounties, who accumulated 231 team points. As a result, the Falcons finished the dual meet season with a 6-1 record. After their meet, the team attempted to return to Bakersfield over the weekend to try and compete in their invitational, but weather permitted them from attending. Next up for Cerritos is the Southern California Multi-Event Championships on Tuesday and Wednesday at Moorpark College.

The Falcons fared well in most of the events, winning six of them, three in running and three in field events. Sophomore Deangelo Mingo (Desert Pines, NV HS/Lassen College) won the 100 meters, while the duo of sophomore Allen Gamble (Pinellas Park, FL HS) and freshman Kenyon Stewart (Cabrillo HS) placed second and third in the 200 meters. Stewart also came in second place in the 400 meters, while sophomore Carlos Santamaria (Paramount HS) came in first place in the 800 meters. In the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Antoine Revell (Serra HS) came in first place, while sophomore Joshua Muwwakkil (Warren HS) won both the high jump and long jump and placed fourth in the triple jump and 110-meter high hurdles. Sophomore Lyndon Wyse (Dorsey HS) won the triple jump.
