05.15.06 - FALCONS TAKE FIFTH AT SOCAL FINALS; SIX QUALIFY FOR STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Sophomore jumper Joshua Muwwakkil (Warren HS) captured the championship in the long jump and placed second in the triple jump at the Southern California Track Championships on Friday at Mt. San Antonio. In addition to the two events, the Falcons will be sending five other athletes to the state championships, which will take place this Friday and Saturday at Bakersfield College. As a team, Cerritos came in fifth place with 51 team points, with conference rival Long Beach City College coming in first place with 117 team points, followed by Moorpark College (99 team points), Mt. San Antonio College (91) and East Los Angeles College (54.50), who all finished ahead of the Falcons. The third place Mounties and fourth place Huskies are also members of the South Coast Conference.

Muwwakkil won the long jump with a leap of 23' 9" while his high jump of 6' 10", was just short of the winning height of 7', set by Long Beach City's Vannie Prudhomme. Also qualifying for Cerritos are sophomore Rafer Weaver (Banning HS), who came in fifth place in the 800 meters at 1:55.49; sophomore Vincent Rojas (Long Beach Millikan HS), who placed sixth in the 10,000 meters at 32:14.84; sophomore Antoine Revell (Serra HS), a fifth place finisher in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in 54.61; and sophomore triple jumper Lyndon Wyse (Dorsey HS), who placed fifth with a 45' 11 1/2" leap.
