04.13.07 - FALCONS WIN SIX EVENTS AT INVITATIONAL

As one of only two community colleges to compete in the Pacific Coast Invitational, held at The Home Depot Center on Friday, the Cerritos College men's track and field team was still able to maintain a competitive presence in the meet. The Falcons won six of the 10 events held, which included wins in both of the relay races, as well as two athletes winning two events each. The team will now host the South Coast Conference Prelims, which will be on Saturday, with the first event scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m.

Sophomore sprinter Genoa Dill (Compton HS) picked up wins in both the 100 meters (11.02) and 200 meters (23.24), while freshman teammate Marcus Stripling (Santa Fe HS) also ran well in both races, placing fourth in the 100 (11.47) and third in the 200 (23.40). Sophomore Alsid Panteau (Cabrillo HS) was a close fourth in the 200 meters at 23.44 and also placed third in the 400 meters in a time of 51.22. Sophomore hurdler Anthony Harbor (Bellflower HS) had little trouble in winning both of his races, as he turned in a time of 15.18 in the 110-meter high hurdles and was clocked in 55.74 in winning the 400-meter intermediate hurdles.

In the relay races, the quartet Dill, Harbor, Stripling and sophomore Qwynn Montgomery (Long Beach Millikan HS) was the lone team to run the 400-meter relay race and registered a time of 42.67. In the 1600-meter relay race, the team of freshman Miguel Ortega (John Glenn HS), sophomore Dennis Drisdom (Dominguez HS), Panteau and Harbor beat out San Diego Mesa College with a time of 3:22.01.  Drisdom also ran the 800 meters and placed second with a time of 1:56.13.
