The Cerritos College men's track team
opened their South Coast Conference season by defeating
one opponent in a season-opening four-way meet on
Friday. The Falcons posted a win over Long Beach City
(139-86), while they dropped a 186-139 score to Mt. San
Antonio College and a close 140-139 decision to El
Camino College. The team will now compete in the
Cerritos Invitational on March 23-24, which will serve
as the inaugural meet on the school's new track.
There were five first place
performances for the Falcons on the day, with sophomore
Genoa Dill
(Compton HS)
winning the 200 meters in 22.37 and placed third in the
100 meters at 11.26. Freshman All-American cross country
runner
Daniel Clifford-Sorenson (Lakewood
HS) won the 3000 meters with a time of
9:02.18, while he came in third place in the 1500 meters
at 4:03.1. Finishing in a close second place in the 800
meters was sophomore
Dennis
Drisdom (Dominguez
HS), who was clocked in 1:59.17, while the
400-meter relay team came in first place at 43.4.
In the field events, freshman
Devin Farrow
(Valley Christian
HS) swept the shot put (45' 2") and the
discus (125' 8") to lead the way. The only other top
three placer was freshman
Cody Lewis
(Lakewood HS)
in the javelin.
