Facing a group of four-year competitors at the USC Trojan Relays on Friday, the Cerritos College men's track and field team held their own to show that they will continue to be competitive as the season progresses. The Falcons had several outstanding performances, which prepared them for the upcoming South Coast Conference All-Team Invitational, which will be held on the new Falcon track this Thursday starting at noon.

    One of the best performances of the meet came from freshman Daniel Clifford-Sorenson (Lakewood HS), whose time of 9:26.99 in the 3000-meter steeplechase was good for third place, but it was also the second fastest time in school history. The record of 9:26.24 was established by Ralph Kolthoff in 1979 and will surely fall by the end of the season. Sophomore hurdler Anthony Harbor (Bellflower HS) turned in solid times in the 110-meter hurdles (15.31, 5th place) and 400-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 53.96, good for fourth place.

    In the 1600-meter sprint medley race, the team of freshman Marcus Stripling (Santa Fe HS), sophomore Genoa Dill (Compton HS), freshman Miguel Ortega (John Glenn HS) and sophomore Dennis Drisdom (Dominguez HS) came in third place in a time of 3:35.10. Sophomore thrower Benjamin Smith (Cypress HS) placed second in the javelin with a throw or 157' 7", while his toss of 111' 8" was good for sixth in the discus. Freshman Devin Farrow (Valley Christian HS) saw his throw of 46' 4 3/4" place him fifth in the shot put.
