- Cerritos placed second in conference meet

The Cerritos College men's track and
field team took second place at the South Coast
Conference All Teams Invitational on Thursday at Falcon
Stadium. The team amassed 143.5 team points and trailed
only Mt. San Antonio College and their 205.5 team
points. Next week, the team will travel to Bakersfield
to compete in the Bakersfield Relays over the weekend.
Freshman
Daniel Clifford-Sorenson (Lakewood HS)
set a new school record in winning the 3000 meters, as
he registered a time of 8:47.34, which was 39 seconds
faster than the old record of 9:26.24 set by Ralph
Kolthoff in 1979. In addition to his record-breaking
performance in the 3000 meters, Clifford-Sorenson won
the 1500 meters with a time of 4:06.17, which is the
third fastest time in school history. He had some
familiar company in both races, as freshman
Jonathan
Dillard (Lakewood HS) finished third in
the 1500 meters and fourth in the 3000 meters. Also, in
the 1500 meters, freshman
Casey McCombs
(Long Beach Wilson HS) came in fifth place. In
other running events, sophomore hurdler
Anthony
Harbor (Bellflower HS) won the 400-meter
hurdles with a time of 55.35, while his time of 15.18
was good for second place in the 110-meter hurdles. The
1600-meter relay team of sophomore

Montgomery (Long Beach Wilson HS),
freshman
Miguel Ortega
(John Glenn HS), sophomore
Alsid Panteau
(Cabrillo HS) and sophomore
Dennis
Drisdom (Dominguez HS) came in second
place in a time of 3:22.61.
In the field events,
freshman
Devin Farrow (Valley Christian HS) won
both the shot put (47' 3") and the discus (133' 7"),
while he placed third in the javelin at 146' 9".
Sophomore teammate
Benjamin Smith
(Cypress HS) was equally as competitive, as he
finished second in the hammer throw (136' 4) and fifth
in both the discus (120' 8") and shot put (42' 9 1/2").
