The Cerritos College men's
track and field team made their presence known at
the prestigious Bakersfield Relays over the weekend,
as the Falcons had athletes place in the top five 17
times, with four individual first place finishes.
The team will now root on their decathletes, as
Cerritos hosts the Southern California Decathlon
Championships on Tuesday and Wednesday starting at
9:30 a.m.
The Falcons won several high profile events, with
freshman
Brandon
Dickson (Long Beach Millikan HS)
capturing the 100 meters in a time of 10.91 with
sophomore teammate
Genoa Dill
(Compton HS) placing 11th in 11.26. It was
Dill's turn to shine in the 200 meters, as he placed
second with a clocking of 22.49, with two other
Falcons finishing in the top 15. Not only did
Cerritos win the shortest race of the meet, they
also won the longest, with freshman
Daniel Clifford-Sorenson (Lakewood
HS) continuing to excel, as he captured the
10,000 meters race with a time of 32.27.9. Freshman
teammates
Jonathan
Dillard (Lakewood HS) and
Casey McCombs (Long Beach Wilson HS)
placed fourth and seventh, respectively in the race.
Clifford-Sorenson also won the 3000-meter
steeplechase with a time of 9:36.44 and took part in
the javelin and placed sixth with a toss of 130' 8".
Sophomore
Anthony
Harbor (Bellflower HS) picked
up a first and second place in the hurdles races, as
he won the 400-meter intermediate hurdles with a
time of 56.54, while his time of 14.93 was good for
second in the 110-meter high hurdles. The Falcon
relay teams fared well, as the 400-meter quartet
placed second (42.73), while the 1600-meter relay
team turned in a time of 3:25.13, good for fourth
place.
In the field events, the duo of freshman
Devin
Farrow (Valley Christian HS)
and sophomore
Benjamin
Smith (Cypress HS) virtually
mirrored their performances in the shot put and
discus. Farrow came in third place in the shot put
with a throw of 46' 9", while Smith was right behind
him in fourth place at 43' 11". In the discus,
Farrow came in second place at 142', with Smith in
fifth place with a throw of 120' 3". However, one of
the highlights of the day was freshman
Cody Lewis
(Lakewood HS), who won the javelin with a
throw of 157', while he also came in ninth place in
the discus and eighth in the 110-meter high hurdles.
