The
Cerritos College men's track and field team
finished in second place out of six teams on
Friday afternoon at Long Beach City College
in a South Coast Conference meet. The
Falcons compiled 137.5 team points and were
only beat out by El Camino College, who
finished with 175.5 points. Trailing both
teams were Long Beach City (116 team
points), Los Angeles Southwest College (50),
Pasadena City College (42) and Los Angeles
Trade-Tech College (1). Cerritos will now
compete in the prestigious Mt. San Antonio
Relays at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Picking up
two wins for the Falcons in the meet were
sophomore
Daniel Clifford-Sorenson (Lakewood
HS) in the distance races, while
freshman
Kristen Joseph (Canyon
Springs, NV HS) captured first place
finish a field event and a second place in a
running event. For Clifford-Sorenson, he won
the 1500 meters (4:04.08) and the 3000
meters (9:03.27), while Joseph won the long
jump with a distance of 22' 3", and sprinted
his way to a second place finish in the 200
meters (22.35).
Cerritos
picked up a first and second place finish in
the hammer, with Christopher
Rodriguez throwing the hammer 116'
7 3/4", while
Louis Rodriguez (La Puente
HS) came in second place with a
distance of 113' 2 1/4". In other top field
event performances, freshman
David Thomas (Cerritos HS)
finished second in the javelin at 173' 8,
with Louis Rodriguez right behind in third
place at 163' 4". Sophomore
Cody Lewis (Lakewood HS)
finished second in the pole vault (13' 6"),
while freshman
Nicholas Armstrong (Long
Beach Poly HS) was a second place
finisher in the high jump with a height of
6' 6".
In the
running events, freshman
Marlon Austin (Bellflower
HS) came in second place in the 400
meters (48.99), with sophomore
Jonathan Dillard (Lakewood
HS) placing second in the 800 meters at
2:00.87. As for freshman hurdler
Bruce McCall (Norwalk HS),
his time of 57.07 was good for third place
in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles.
