At the South Coast Conference Preliminaries, which where held at Cerritos College on Tuesday, the Falcon men's track and field team had two individual winners, while they have advanced six individuals to the finals, which will also be held at Cerritos on Friday, starting at 12:00 p.m.  The top nine finishers in events that were not finals, advance to the championships. Six events were finals, which accumulate points toward the team championship, and the Falcons picked up 53 on the day, which puts them in second place. The top six finishers in the finals events advance to the Southern California Preliminaries, which will be held at Bakersfield College.

    In those events that were finals, Cerritos had their two winners, as sophomore distance runner Daniel Clifford-Sorenson (Lakewood HS) won the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:24.51. He finished 33 seconds ahead of his closest competitor, while teammates Casey McCombs (Long Beach Wilson HS) and Armando Pina (Kennedy HS) also picked up team points for their finish. In the javelin, freshman David Thomas (Cerritos HS) had his best showing all season, winning the event with a distance of 182'. Sophomore Cody Lewis (Lakewood HS) was in second place with 167' 8", while Louis Rodriguez (La Puente HS) and Nicholas Armstrong (Long Beach Poly HS) finished in fourth and seventh places, respectively.
