The Cerritos College
men's track and field team finished in third place at
the South Coast Conference Championships on Friday,
after they compiled 112 team points. Mt. San Antonio
College won the championship with 214 team points, with
El Camino College placing second with 135 team points.
The Falcons had three individual champions in the meet, as sophomore distance runner
Daniel Clifford-Sorenson (Lakewood HS)
set a new school record in the 5000 meters, with a time
of 15:01.61. He broke the old record of 15:04.04, set by
Bob Ridley in 1979. In addition,
Clifford-Sorenson won the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:24.51.
The team's third champion was freshman
David Thomas
(Cerritos HS) in the javelin, as he turned in a
distance of 182' to win the meet.
Freshman Kirsten
Joseph (Canyon Springs, NV HS) qualified
in three events, as he came in second place in the long
jump (23' 8 1.2"), along with a fifth place in the 200
meters (22.13) and sixth in the 100 meters (11.14).
There were four Falcons that finishes in the top six in
the javelin to advance, including sophomore
Cody Lewis
(Lakewood HS), who also qualified in the
110-meter hurdles, and freshman
Louis
Rodriguez (La Puente HS), who advanced in
the discus.
Below is a list of Falcons who have qualified for the
Southern California Preliminaries after the conference
championships were completed. The top six from each
event have advanced to the prelims, which will be held
at Bakersfield College next Saturday, In addition, there
will be a selection of automatic qualifiers that will be
decided at a seeding meeting on Sunday at College of the
Canyons.
