Lewis (Lakewood HS) posted the
fifth-most points in school history on Tuesday and
Wednesday at the Southern California Decathlon
Championships at Moorpark College and came in third
place. Lewis, who compiled 6087 points, now advances
to the state championships, which will be held at
Cerritos College on May 16-17. He was only beat out
by Nate Koch (6414 points) of Mt. San Antonio
College and Lance Gonzales (6366) of Riverside
College.
Lewis finished
second in one event, third place in three others and
had two sixth place finishes. He tied for second
place in the pole vault with a height of 6' 2",
while he placed third in 110-meter intermediate
hurdles (16.25), javelin (158' 5") and high jump (6'
2"). His throw of 35' 6" was good for sixth place in
the shot put, while his distance of 102' 8 1/2"
earned him a sixth place in the discus. He also
placed 11th in the long jump (19' 1/4"), 10th in the
100 meters (11.80), ninth in the 1500 meters
(4:55.66) and 11th in the 400 meters (53.41.
The point total of
6087 beat his old personal record of 5399, which he
set last year.
