The Cerritos
College men's track and field team split their
results against four other South Coast
Conference teams in a five-way meet, which was
held at Mt. San Antonio College on Saturday. The
Falcons, who defeated Pasadena City College
(126-54.66) and Los Angeles Southwest College
(126-47), were defeated by El Camino College
(196.83-126) and the host Mounties (184.5-126).
The team will now travel to Long Beach City
College on Friday at noon for their final dual
meet of the season.
On the day,
the Falcons won six individual events, all by
different athletes. In the running events,
freshman
Marlon
Austin (Bellflower HS)
captured the 400 meters with a time of 49.20 and
also placed third in the 200 meters, while
freshman hurdler
Bruce
McCall (Norwalk HS)
rebounded from his stumble in the 400-meter
hurdles and won the 110-meter high hurdles with
a clocking of 15.46, which just beat our Jacob
Yowell of El Camino by .03 seconds. In the
2-mile run, sophomore distance specialist
Daniel Clifford-Sorenson (Lakewood
HS) beat his closest competitor by six
seconds, as he finished the race in 9:27.92.
As for the
field events, freshman
Nicholas Armstrong (Long Beach
Poly HS) cleared 6' 8" to win the event,
with freshman
Kristen Joseph (Canyon Springs,
NV HS) winning the long jump by almost a
foot, with a distance of 23' 1". Freshman
thrower
Louis Rodriguez (La Puente HS)
was the final first place finisher, as he won
the javelin with a distance of 167' 6".
Sophomore
Jonathan Dillard (Lakewood HS)
also had a good day, as he finished in second
place in the 800 meters in a time of 1:58.72.
