Led by a pair of
first place finishes, the Cerritos College men's
track and field team did very well at the 1st Annual
American River Invitational in Sacramento on
Saturday. In addition to the two first place
finishes, the Falcons also had three second place
and one third place finish. The team will now
compete in the prestigious Mt. San Antonio Relays on
Saturday.
Competing against
both community college and four-year universities,
freshman
Torion
Bailey (Mayfair HS) beat out 30 other
runners to win the 800 meters with a time of
1:54.02. In the distance races, sophomores
Qualaun Reed
(Cabrillo HS) and
Armando Pina
(Kennedy HS) placed second and fifth place,
respectively. Reed posted a time of 9:42.85 for his
second place finish, while Pina's time of 10:06.11
was good for fifth. Joining them was sophomore
Dashan
Craft (Warren HS), whose time of
10:15.44 put him in sixth place.
Also picking up a
first place was sophomore
Kristen
Joseph (Canyon Springs, NV HS) in the
long jump, as he turned in a distance of 7.22
meters. Joseph also placed fourth in the triple
jump, while sophomore
Nicholas Armstrong (Long Beach Poly HS)
finished fourth in the high jump (6' 6") and ninth
in the javelin. Freshman thrower
Jeramey
Cutler (Lakewood HS) turned in a
second place in the discus and 10th in the hammer,
while freshman
Vincent
Huitt (Downey HS) was second in the
discus (43.25 meters) and seventh in the hammer at
42.70 meters.
