03.14.09 - LAST EVENT WINS MEET FOR FALCONS
The Cerritos College men's track team did exactly what they needed to do in order to hold off host Moorpark College in a four-way meet hosted by the Raiders on Saturday. The Falcons held a slim margin prior to the final event of the day - the 1600-meter relay race. On the strength of their third place finish time of 3:20.46, Cerritos scored six team points, while Moorpark came in fourth place, good for five team points. The final tally of the meet had the Falcons pulling out a 177-176.5 team score victory over the Raiders, while they also defeated West Los Angeles College (177-136.5) and El Camino College, 177-130. Cerritos will now host the California Relays this weekend, starting at 9:00 a.m. on Friday and concluding on Saturday.

Sophomore Kelsey Caesar (Klein Forest (TX) HS/Cal State Long Beach) helped the cause, winning both the 100 meters (10.84) and 200 meters (21.64), as the Falcons captured five events on the day. Freshman Tavoy Moore (Gahr HS) ran very well, placing third in the 100 meters in 11.13. Freshman Torion Bailey (Mayfair HS) also won two events, the 400 meters in 48.76 and the 800 meters, with a time of 2:01.80.

In the throwing events, sophomore David Thomas (Cerritos HS) won the javelin, with sophomore Nicholas Armstrong (Long Beach Poly HS) placing third, while Armstrong finished second in the high jump (6' 6") and Thomas coming in third in the pole vault at 11' 6". In the discus, freshman Jeramey Cutler (Lakewood HS) came in second place, with freshman Eric Roberson (Long Beach Poly HS) finishing in fourth in the shot put.
