The Cerritos
College men's track and field team outscored all the
other eight teams at the South Coast Conference
Preview Meet to come in first place on Friday at
Compton College. The Falcons compiled 191.5 team
points to pull away from second place finisher Mt.
San Antonio College, who finished with 170 team
points. Cerritos will now travel north to compete in
the Nike Invitational in Sacramento on Saturday.
In the sprints,
the Falcons won three events, with sophomore
Kelsey
Caesar (Klein Forest (TX)/Cal State
Long Beach) capturing both the 200 meters and
400 meters, while freshman
William
English (Montebello HS) won
the 100 meters. For Caesar, he blazed his way to a
time of 21.49 to win the event, with sophomore
Brandon Dickson (Long
Beach Millikan HS) placing fourth in 22.45. It
was a time of 47.95 that won the 400 meters for
Caesar, with Dickson also in fourth place in the
event at 49.29. Sophomore Marlon Austin
(Bellflower HS) also came in fifth place
with a time of 49.99. English ran a 10.89 in the 100
meters to win that event, while freshman
Enis
Gilbeau (Bellflower HS) saw
his time of 11.24 put him in fifth place.
In the field
events, sophomore
Kristen
Joseph (Canyon Springs, NV HS)
turned in a leap of 23' to win the long jump, while
Dickson was a close second at 22' 2 3/4". Sophomore
Nicholas Armstrong (Long Beach Poly
HS), who won the Southern California decathlon
championship earlier in the week, won the javelin
with a throw of 164' 5", which easily beat second
place finisher, freshman
Eric
Roberson (Long Beach Poly HS),
who went 137' 6". Freshman
Calvin
Clausell (Cerritos HS) helped
the team take the top three spots by coming in third
at 134'.
In other throwing
events, Roberson placed third in the shot put (44'
5"), while freshman
Jeramey
Cutler (Lakewood HS) won the
discus with a toss of 144' 6". He was joined by
freshman
Vincent Huitt
(Downey HS) in second place at 142' 4",
with Armstrong in fourth place at 131' 6". Cutler
also came in second place in the hammer throw with a
distance of 148' 7", with freshman
Noe
Sosa (Downey HS) in
third place at 143' 1". Huitt, who also finished
sixth place in the shot put, placed fifth in the
hammer with a throw of 138' 5".
Sophomore
Qualuan Reed
(Cabrillo HS) came in fourth place in the
1500 meters with a time of 4:10.94, while the duo of
Angel Aguirre (Valencia HS)
and
Geovanni
Popoca (Valencia HS) placed
third (16:03.84) and fourth (16:04.50),
respectively, in the 5000 meters.
