02.26.10 - FALCONS WIN CONFERENCE MINI-MEET
    Led by several outstanding performances, including eight first place finishes, the Cerritos College men's track and field team compiled 189 team points to come in first place at the South Coast Conference Mini-Meet on Friday. The Falcons edged past second place Mt. San Antonio College, who finished with 172.5 team points. The team will now compete in the Benny Brown Invitational on Thursday and Saturday at Cal State Fullerton, while also squeezing in another conference mini-meet, held at Cerritos on Friday.
 
    In the hammer throw, sophomore Vincent Huitt (Downey HS) recorded the second-best throw in school history, as he won the event with a distance of 162' 3". The school record of 163' 5" was set by Armando Ramirez in 2005. Also in that event, sophomore Noe Sosa (Downey HS) registered the fourth-best hammer throw in school history, as he went 156' 9" to come in second place in the event. Freshmen teammates Samuel Carrington (Fort Lauderdale, FL HS) and Sony Theodate (Fort Lauderdale, FL HS) finished fourth (130') and fifth (129'), respectively in the event.
 
    In the 1500 meters, freshman Gabriel Hilbert (Kennedy HS) posted the fourth fastest time in school history, when he was clocked in 4:02.28 to win the event. Sophomore Torion Bailey (Mayfair HS) placed fifth at 4:15.63.
 
    Other individual winners included sophomore Kevin Avery (Washington Prep HS/El Camino College), who won the 200 meters in 21.95, while Hilbert also won the 800 meters (1:57.03), with freshman Daniel King (El Rancho HS) a close second at 1:57.35. Freshman DeMarshay Luckett won the triple jump at 22' 5", with freshman Aaron Burke in third place (21' 11"), while Burke won the triple jump at 43' 6". Sophomore Sweeney Williams (North Torrance HS) threw the javelin 175' 6" to win the event, and also placed second in the triple jump at 42' 6".
 
    The 400-meter relay team of Avery, freshman Ameer Webb (Tustin HS), Taylor and Williams came in first place at 41.84, while teammates Enis Gilbeau (Bellflower HS), Shawn McCoy (Washington Prep HS), Juan Tapia (Long Beach Millikan HS) and Carl Houston (Cerritos HS) came in second place.
