Taking only their short distance runners to the
Ben Brown Invitational at Cal State Fullerton
over the weekend, the Cerritos College men's
track and field team did a good job against
competition from both community college and
Division I programs. The Falcons will now travel
north to compete in the San Mateo Invitational
on Friday.
In the relay races, Cerritos came in fourth
place in the 1600-meter relay and fifth in the
400-meter relay. Sophomore Torion
Bailey (Mayfair HS),
freshman
Juan
Tapia (Long Beach Millikan HS)
and sophomores
Kevin
Avery (Washington Prep HS/El
Camino College) and LaRon
Taylor (Washington Prep HS)
comprised the 1600-meter relay team that turned
in a time of 3:16.63, while Avery, freshman Ameer
Webb (Tustin HS), Taylor
and sophomore
Sweeney Williams (North
Torrance HS) were clocked in 42.28 in the
400-meter relay.
As for the sprints, Webb turned in a strong
10.64 to come in second place in the 100 meters,
with Avery in fifth place at 11.00. In the 400
meters, Taylor placed seventh (49.43), while
Bailey was a strong fourth place in the 800
meters at 1:55.50, as freshman
