For the second time in three seasons, the Cerritos
College men's track team finished second overall at the
California Community College Athletic Association State
Championships, which were held at American River College
over the weekend. The Falcons, who finished with 76 team
points, trailed only the host Beavers, who posted 86 1/2
points. American River clinched the team championship in
the 5000 meters, just prior to the final event of the
night, the 4x400-meter relay race. The Falcons trailed
by half a point, but did not have an entry in the relay
race, while the Beavers wound up winning the 4x400-meter
relay race for their 11 1/2-point team win...[more]
05.13.11 - Cerritos looking to win it all
Led by sophomore sprinter Ameer
Webb (Tustin HS), who won both the 100
meters and 200 meters in school-record time at the
Southern California Championships at Mt. San Antonio
College on Friday, the Cerritos College men's track and
field team is looking to improve on their second place
finish and win the California Community College Athletic
Association state championship this weekend at American
River College. The Falcons placed second in both the
Southern California Championships and South Coast
Conference Championships behind rival Mt. San Antonio.
The Mounties won the SoCal title with 100 team points,
with Cerritos and Riverside Community College tied for
second with 88 points...[more]

04.29.11 - Cerritos finishes second at SCC Championships
Even though they won six events at the South Coast
Conference Championships on Friday at Mt. San Antonio
College, it still wasn't enough to overtake the host
Mounties, who won the title with 281 team points, while
the Falcons finished second with 178 team points. The
top six finishers from each event, along with alternates
and automatic qualifiers now advance to the Southern
California Prelims, which will be held at Mt. San
Antonio on Friday.
Winning a pair of conference championships was sophomore
sprinter Ameer Webb (Tustin HS), who set a school record in the 100 meters with a blazing time of 10.16, which eclipsed the old mark of 10.21 set by Justin Anderson in 2001. Webb, who won the state championship in the 200 meters last year and finished second in the 100 meters, now holds the school standard in both events. He won the 200 meters on Friday in 21.04...[more]
04.16.11 - Falcons do well at Beach Invitational
Going
up against primarily four-year schools at the Beach
Invitational, the Cerritos College men's track and field
team was able to stay in the hunt in numerous
categories, with one school record being broken. The
Falcons, who will compete in the South Coast Conference
Prelims at East Los Angeles College next Tuesday, also
turned in a pair of second place finishes.
Sophomore Gabriel Hilbert (Kennedy HS), who holds the school record in the 800 meters, added the 1500 meters to his resume, as he posted a time of 3:52.36, which put him in 13th place in the race. But, the time was fast enough to eclipse the old mark of 3:53.64 that Ralph Kolthoff had held since 1980. Hilbert only trailed runners from four-year universities...[more]
04.09.11 - Fastest time ever at Mt. SAC Relays posted
Cerritos College sophomore sprinter Ameer
Webb (Tustin HS) not only set a new
school record in the 200 meters at the Mt. San Antonio

in the 53 years of the meet. Webb, who won the state
championship in the 200 meters last year, turned in a
time of 20.67, breaking his old record of 20.70 that he
ran last year. It was one of two events that Webb
captured at the invitational, as he also won the 100
meters in a time of 10.42...[more]
04.02.11 - School record falls at American River
If the performance of Cerritos College freshman distance
runner Daniel Herrera (El Rancho HS) at
the American River Invitational on Saturday is any
indication of what he is capable of, the school record
time he recorded in the 5000 meters is just a precursor
to what could happen if he qualifies for the state
championships, which will be held at the same venue.
Herrera set a new school record time of 14:54.31 to win
the 5000 meters, eclipsing the old standard of 15:01.61,
set in 2008 by Daniel Clifford-Sorenson. The
Falcons will get another chance to improve, as they will

to a pair of events this weekend, as one will go to the
Easter Relays at Santa Barbara City College, while
others will go to the Stanford Invitational.
One of the highlights of the invitational came from
someone who didn't even win their event. Sophomore Karlin
Stewart (Mount Miguel HS/Cuyamaca College)
finished second in the triple jump, but his leap of 49'
1 3/4" was the third longest in school history. He is
working toward breaking the school mark of 51' 1" set by
Andre Cobbs in 1984. In addition, Stewart finished
in second place in the long jump at 7.32 meters...[more]

strong performance in one of the top meets in the state.
Cerritos will now compete in a mini-meet at Pasadena
City College on Friday.
Sophomore Gabriel Hilbert (Kennedy HS), who is the defending state champion in the 800 meters, defeated the field with a time of 1:55.58, despite the clocking being seven seconds off his personal best time. Teammates

in a community college event. The incoming sophomore
placed sixth in the first round at the 2010 USA Outdoor
Track & Field Junior Championships at Drake Stadium in
Des Moines, IA with his school-record time of 1:50.84.
Hilbert, who won the California Community College state
